Mahindra & Mahindra has issued a recall for over 19,000 units of the XUV700 and the Scorpio-N SUVs. Under this recall the company will inspect rubber bellow inside bell housing on a batch of 6618 units of Scorpio-N Manual Transmission vehicles and a batch of 12,566 units of XUV700 manual transmission vehicles. The recall only affects vehicles that were manufactured between July 1 and November 11, 2022.

In its official statement, Mahindra said, “A sorting process error at the supplier’s plant, on specific dates, may have affected operating dimensional clearance of rubber bellow inside bell housing. Keeping with the company’s stringent quality standards and exercising abundant caution, Mahindra has proactively engaged in this limited inspection and subsequent rectification, free of cost. Customers will be individually contacted by the dealership. As an endeavour to ensure a hassle-free experience for its customers, the company is proactively carrying out this activity.”

Only the manual variants of the Mahindra XUV700 and the Scorpio-N, manufactured between July 1 and November 22, will be affected by this recall.

Both the Mahindra XUV700 and the Scorpio-N have been highly popular among car buyers in India and have been attracting long waiting periods. As of August 2022, Mahindra has reported that it has 2.40 lakh open bookings for the XUV700 and the Scorpio-N combined, while the former alone is commanding a waiting period of 20-24 months. Whereas, the Scorpio-N, which had racked up over 1 lakh bookings when the order books opened in late July 2022, is seeing a minimum waiting period of 4 months for the top-end trims, while customers buying other variants might have to wait for as long as 20-24 months.

Both SUVs are offered in petrol and diesel engine options, with manual and automatic choices. The SUVs come with a range of premium creature comforts and smart tech, including connected car system. In fact, the XUV700 also holds a 5-star safety rating from the Global NCAP. Right now, the Mahindra Scorpio-N is priced from Rs. 11.99 lakh to Rs. 23.90 lakh, while the XUV700 is priced between Rs. 13.45 lakh and Rs. 24.95 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi).
