The versatile Kia Carens was selected as the Viewers’ Option Automobile of the Year at the carandbike Awards 2023, marking yet another triumph for the Korean automaker. The Carens made an immediate impression for Kia India when it was introduced in 2022 with a start-up price of Rs 8.99 lakh (ex-showroom). In its first month on the market, more than 50,000 orders were placed for the MPV. Since then, the Carens has established itself as one of Kia’s most popular designs.

The Carens – based on the same platform that underpins the Kia Seltos and available in 6- and 7-seat configurations – has proven to be a contemporary alternative to existing, established MPVs, as well as bridged the gap that existed between two of India’s most popular MPVs – the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta.

In typical Kia fashion, the Carens offers consumers a multitude of powertrain options. The MPV is available with a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated petrol engine, a 1.5-liter diesel engine and a recently-introduced 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine that produces an exceptional 158 horsepower and 253 Nm of torque. Kia also offers an intelligent manual transmission (iMT) in addition to automated transmissions for the turbo-petrol (7-speed dual-clutch transmission) and diesel (6-speed torque convertor) models of the MPV.

The Kia Carens comes standard with six airbags, digital stability manage, hill start assist, vehicle steadiness management, all-wheel disc brakes, tyre tension monitoring, three-point seat belts for all occupants, and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

Currently, prices for the Kia Carens range between Rs 10.45 lakh and Rs 18.8 lakh (ex-showroom).
