Depending on where you are, you may not have any other choices in the near future if you have been considering purchasing a Jeep plug-in hybrid. This, of course, depends on where you are.

Jeep mother or dad Automotive News reported on Friday that Stellantis has discontinued stocking non-hybrid models in the 14 California states that are subject to emissions regulations. According to the report, car dealerships in states with people can no longer order hybrid vehicles when customers ask for them. Instead, they can only get non-hybrid cars.

According to the source, Stellantis has started allocating exclusively Jeep 4xe plug-in hybrid designs approximately two months ago, despite the fact that emissions principles in the 14 states do not include Stellantis to supply a set proportion of zero-emission cars until eventually 2026. At the same time, it has been reported that car dealerships in other states are no longer able to acquire plug-in hybrid vehicles without first having a customer purchase one of these vehicles.

Stellantis used this skewed allocation approach since it is not a component of the agreement that was reached in 2020 between the California Air Sources Board (CARB), which is the powerful regulatory agency that determines the state’s emissions regulations, and 5 manufacturers that applies to design-calendar year 2021-2026 automobiles. It was apparently conveyed by the automaker to dealers in April that more durable emissions procedures were going to be implemented by CARB and associated states retroactive to the 2021 product calendar year, separately from the 2026 requirements.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), the company that would later become Stellantis, did not sign the agreement. However, Ford, BMW, Honda, Volkswagen, and Volvo did sign the document. Instead, it took the side of the Trump administration in its campaign to take away California’s jurisdiction to regulate emissions from the state. According to Automotive News, when Stellantis was created in 2021 from the merging of FCA and PSA, it attempted to be a part of the settlement but was advised that new clients ended up not being recognised.

The Jeep 4xe models have acquired a solid reputation for being popular. The Wrangler 4xe has been the most popular model among plug-in hybrids, and it has recently received a price reduction as part of an upgrade to the Wrangler lineup for the 2024 model year. Even while, like the Wrangler, it directs the system’s electrical motor torque towards off-road capability, Jeep’s other plug-in hybrid, the Grand Cherokee 4xe, is somewhat different.

Stellantis paid a record petrol economic state fine, despite the fact that these designs were part of its U.S. range, and this was the case even while the company was led by different people over the course of the previous decades. Carlos Tavares, the Chief Executive Officer of Stellantis, has dropped hints that the selection-extended Ram truck that is on its way will make it possible for the company to evade laws.
